A Rat Pole Dancing on My Bird Feeder (Real Video, No AI)

Not every visitor at the feeder has feathers. This week the camera at the feeding place caught a rat that did something I did not expect: it climbed the thin metal pole of the bird feeder, all the way up, like a little pole dancer.

What you see in the video

The rat holds the pole with its front paws, pushes itself up with its back legs and uses its long tail for balance. It is clearly after the seeds in the feeder. Birds are not the only ones who know where the food is in this garden.

Real video, no AI

This is real footage from my garden camera in Niedermohr, Germany. Only the thumbnail was cleaned up with AI, so you can see the rat better on a small screen. The video itself is not changed.

A rat at the bird feeder – what can you do?

Wherever birds are fed, seeds fall on the ground, and that attracts rats and mice. Things that usually help:

  • Do not put out more food than the birds eat in a day.
  • Clean up seeds that fall on the ground.
  • Put a tray under the feeder to catch what falls.

What would you do?

Would you let it stay, or not? Tell me in the comments under the video on YouTube.

Curious who comes next? The garden is live 24/7, and on the Equipment page you can see which cameras film it all.
